United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC), Women’s Initiative is excited to announce our fourth annual Power of the Purse event happening on Wednesday March 14, 2012 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Eastern Michigan University, Student Center ballroom.

Each year, the Women's Initiative hosts this very special event, which brings together women from our community for an evening of wonderful food and fabulous purses, in order to fund grants that will allow women to achieve their potential.  

These women may be our sisters, a cashier at a local grocery store, our best friend's daughter. Maybe they are someone we have never met, but with whom we will form a deep, compassionate friendship. Maybe these women are you-ten years ago or ten years from now.

The one thing all of these women have in common is that they could use our help. Through the Power of the Purse, we are building a group of dynamic business and community leaders who are committed to igniting the power of women to advance the common good.  In 2011, the Women’s Initiative was able to grant $37,000 to women in the community.

Each year the Women's Leadership Initiative encourages the community to honor any woman living and working in Washtenaw County who deserves recognition for her work on behalf of women and their families.
